RIVER EDGE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ANNOUNCES
Open House Ceremony and Tour for Tiny Cottages of Macon
MACON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Macon-Bibb County and River Edge Behavioral Health are pleased to announce an Open House Ceremony and Tour for the Tiny Cottages of Macon, which will house individuals who have experienced homelessness and have a mental health or substance use disorder disability, on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 723 Norris Street, Macon, Georgia 31217.
The ceremony will celebrate the completion of the ten tiny homes and kick off at 10:00 a.m., followed by a ribbon cutting and a housing tour.
The tiny homes will allow residents to remain stably housed and will help them build better lives for themselves as they seek wraparound services to assist them in their recovery.
A fully furnished model home will be open for the public to view during the Open House Tour.
The homes were developed using universal design, a design approach to produce environments that are usable, accessible and inclusive for all people to the greatest extent possible, regardless of age, disability or other factors. The project architect is Azar + Walsh Architects with Stafford Builders serving as the construction manager.
“We’re thrilled to unveil this beautiful property in East Macon, offering those who are homeless with a disability modest means of affordable housing,” said Chief Executive Officer of River Edge Behavioral Health Cass Hatcher. “We are confident that these tiny cottages will enable residents to build a bright future with supportive services provided by River Edge, and we are thankful to everyone who helped materialize this vision.”
Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller and Manager of the Macon-Bibb Economic and Community Development Department Wanzina Jackson will make a few remarks, along with River Edge Behavioral Health Director of Supportive Housing Erika Parks, Architect Kamal Azar of Azar + Walsh Architects and Stafford Builders CEO Walter Stafford.
Pastor Richard Robinson of New Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church will open the ceremony with an invocation.
The Central Georgia community is invited to attend.
If an individual meets the criteria to qualify to live in the homes, then they can contact the Macon-Bibb Economic Opportunity Council Inc. (EOC) to take an assessment at 478-738-3240.
