MACON, Ga., April 1, 2024 – Atrium Health Navicent is accepting applications for a new program which will provide Bibb County high school juniors and seniors with the opportunity to shadow health care workers and receive hands-on training
for heath careers.
Funded by the Navicent Health Foundation, the Realizing and Encouraging Adolescents to pursue Careers in Healthcare (REACH) program, seeks to provide students with a pathway to pursue careers in health care through a four-week
session, averaging 32 hours a week.
In the program, students will shadow a professional in one of the following interest areas: nursing, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, radiology, health care administration, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and general physician.
Daily professional engagement and development activities include medical skills simulation and hands-on training, panel discussions with health care professionals, discussions about how to navigate higher education pathways and financial fitness, educational field trips, engagement with leaders and learning resources, and education about career opportunities at Atrium Health Navicent.
Students will receive a $1,500 stipend upon completion of the program and an invitation to attend the REACH program graduation ceremony.
“It’s incredibly important that we inspire the health care workers of the future, fuel their interest and aid in creating a workforce pipeline that will shape our region’s health care for decades to come,” said Gina Keadle, chief human resource
officer for Atrium Health’s Georgia region. “We encourage students to apply and get a taste of how rewarding a career in health care can be, and to find out more about education and career opportunities.”
The REACH program is scheduled to start June 24 and last through July 19. Applications will be accepted April 1 through April 22. The student application process includes survey questions and a teacher or school administrator
recommendation. To be eligible for the program, students must:
• Be at least 16 years old at the start of the program
• Have a minimum, unweighted 2.5 GPA
• Have an interest in pursuing a career in health care
• Have a letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor
• Complete and submit all required application materials by the application deadline
• If selected, must be able to participate and complete the program.
