Macon, GA — Elaine Huckabee Lucas, a retired educator and Macon-Bibb Commissioner, proudly announces her candidacy for the Macon Water Authority in the upcoming November general election. With a successful election, Lucas would make history as the second Black citizen to serve on the Water Board.
Lucas has a distinguished record of public service. She served on the Macon City Council for 25 years and is concluding a 12-year tenure on the Macon-Bibb Commission this December, reaching the term limit. Her extensive educational background includes being an honor graduate of Savannah State University, holding a master’s degree from Fort Valley State University, and a specialist degree from Georgia College and State University.
In addition to her academic achievements, Lucas is deeply involved in community service. She is a member of the Macon-Bibb Board of Health, the Joint Development Authority, and is the founder and member of both the local MLK Board and the Pedestrian Safety Review Board. Lucas also serves as the third member of the Commission’s Committee on Committees, is a Certified County Commissioner, and has chaired numerous governmental committees.
After a 38-year career as a teacher and counselor with the Board of Education, Lucas retired and founded E L High School Academy in 2011. The academy offers dropouts a second chance to earn their diplomas from an accredited program, boasting over 1,800 graduates to date. The school is fully accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission.
Lucas has been married to Senator David Lucas for 47 years and is a dedicated 40-year member of Steward Chapel AME Church. She is also a 40-year Golden Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In memory of their late son, Al, who tragically passed away in 2005 due to a football injury, the Lucas family established the Al Lucas Scholarships.
Elaine Lucas is committed to bringing her effective and assertive representation to the citizens of Water Board District 1, just as she has consistently done for Maconites throughout her career. She seeks your support and prayers for her success, promising to remain “YOUR VOICE.”
