All Day
On this day in 2023, Colonel Paris D. Davis, U.S. Army (Retired), received the “Medal of Honor,” presented to him by President Joe Biden for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his own life above and beyond the call of duty.”
Davis, then a Captain with the 5th Special Forces Group, displayed acts of heroism in Vietnam when, during a 19-hour firefight with the North Vietnamese, he refused to evacuate without bringing all other U.S. soldiers off the battlefield. Despite multiple gunshot wounds and a grenade attack, he acted to save and succeeded in saving his comrades.
Colonel Davis is an inductee in the Army Ranger Hall of Fame since 2019. He also received the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his efforts in this action prior to finally becoming one of only 65 “Medal of Honor” winners on March 3, 2023.
