Celebrated each year during the last week of April, World Immunization Week aims to highlight the collective action needed to protect people from vaccine-preventable diseases. The goal is for more children, adults, and their communities to be protected from vaccine-preventable diseases, allowing them to live happier, healthier lives.

World Immunization Week serves to remind us to catch-up on any essential immunizations. Everyone 50 and older needs a shingles vaccine — only one in five adults has gotten one. You also need a Tdap booster every 10 years (after five years if you’ve had a bad wound or burn) and the Hepatitis A and B vaccines if you’re over age 50 and at risk for these diseases.
